On the 18:th of November, the 20:th anniversary of the Stockholm Film Festival kicks off. 180 movies will be shown in 7 cinemas all over Stockholm during 12 intense days. Britain is well represented with 20 contributions. Read a bit about a few of them below:
This movie is the debut for both director Andrea Arnold and Katie Jarvis who plays the main role. Fifteen-year-old Mia lives with her mother and younger sister in an Essex housing project. Their cramped apartment is littered with beer cans and booze bottles, but Mia aspires to rise above her surroundings.
Set in Nottingham, this semi-autobiographic story is famous actress Samantha Morton’s directorial debut. The dark and moving story is about young Lucy’s difficult childhood and her revenge on the world. Starring in the movie is among others Robert Carlyle, Susan Lynch and Molly Windsor.
Le donk & Scor-Zay-Zee
Following the successes of ‘This is England’ and ‘Somers Town’, director Shane Meadows returns with this quirky comedy. It is about Le Donk, once a happy roadie with his whole life ahead of him and an aim set for the stars and a future career in the music business. Things did not exactly turn out that way, and now he has decided to place all his bets on one last hope for success: Nottingham’s finest – real life rapper Scor-zay-zee.
