Team of the week: Aston Villa

Aston Villa - Carew & Young

Can the team from Birmingham achieve their big goal this season? To get into the Champions league by finishing top four in the premiership..

There was a lot of speculation around the two brightest Villa stars before this season, Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor. They were both linked to big clubs, but the manager, Martin O´Neill held on to both of them. Ashley Young is considered one of the best young players in England today and is beginning to establish himself on the national team. Last season the twenty-four-year-old was named the top young player of the premiership by the Professional Fotballers’ Association (PFA), scoring 7 goals from his left wing position.

Aston Villa - AgbonlahorAlong with Emile Heskey, Agbonlahor, Marlon Harewood and the Norwegian player John Carew (from my hometown!), the Villains certainly have the offensive abilities to score goals, but is it enough to break into the big four? New to the team this season are Stewart Downing, Isaiah Osbourne and Marlon Harewood.

Actually manager Martin O´Neill is perhaps the biggest star in the club today, having modelled his coaching style after the Nottingham Forest legend Brian Clough. This northern Irishman has led clubs as Leicester city and Celtic with great success. Both as a former player and a manager, the 57 year old has been honoured with an «Order of the British Empire»(OBE) for his achievements in sport in Great Britain.
