My mum, age 81, has just come back from a 2 weeks holiday in the UK! Calling me everyday to tell me all about her adventures I must admit I hope I have inherited her stamina and joyfulness!
She started off in London, staying at the Norwegian KFUK hjemmet at Holland Park. For just £39 a night she got a singel room, shared bathroom, a nice breakfast, dinner and could make the typical Norwegian “matpakke” (lunchbag). The KFUK Guesthouse is open for all Norwegian citisens. Are you Swedish or Danish you have to be of female sex and under 30. There are a non-smoking, non-drinking ruel but for a small deposit you will get the key to the front door so you do not have to be in bed at 23:00! KFUK hjemmet is perfect for families, under -18’s and everybody looking for cheap, friendly and clean accomodation in central London.
Set up with an oystercard for local traffic she happily called me and said “it’s so easy to use” – and so cheap!! Yes, we know mum!!
After a short trip to Cardiff and her grandson, she visited the Cotswolds! My colleague Jackie had stayed in this beautifully, charming Guesthouse in Winchcombe so off she went! The Old Station House is a true gem, beautiful rooms, good food and helpful and friendly owners. My mum ended up watching telly by the fire with them and then beeing taken on a sighstseeingtour around the Cotswolds by car! She was even driven to the bus by the owner Norman since there are no buses going on Sundays in the Cotswolds.
After a brisk walk of 15 minutes from Winchcombe village centre she visited Sudeley Castle with it’s beautiful gardens and now an interesting exhibition about Henry VIII. And then she hitch hiked back to the little town for a nice cup of tea!
So much more happend but i had to stop her talking! More holiday ideas and adventures will follow! Thanks to you mum!
